Government's Role in Hurting the Economy

President Bush, The Federal Reserve Chairman, and many Republicans, along with all Democrats are now supporting a "stimulus Package" to help stimulate an economy that is slowing down and some fear will go into a recession.

For starters, since 2002 the economy has been flourishing with great expansion and especially after the Bush Tax Cuts in 01 and 03 we saw an economy that was as strong as ever and yet the administration never got credit for it because of two reasons.
1) The Media hates conservatives and republicans like President Bush and would not report the good news, or would report good news one, second but give reasons that news does not help "everyone". Now the economy is slowing and the Media is all over it!! They love it because with the War going much better, if the economy was still expanding and rolling, then it would help republicans. I can see CNN, CBS, NBC, and ABC anchors salivate at the bad news!
2.) President Bush is a terrible communicator and if the Media is going to be bias you need to get people out there making speeches and explaining to the American People why the Economy is booming! He failed to do that and thus I have little sympathy for him.

Today politicians want to get involved with fixing the economy?? I don't understand it.. Economies go through Business Cycles. They expand and contract at times, and at times Boom and at times recess. Nothing is new. The government has a responsibility to have good tax policies, spend money wisely, and keep interest rates at a good rate. And yet now they want to have a stimulus package to help the economy. Lets review:

The Democrats will not extend Bush's tax cuts which will expire in 2010, which will hurt businesses and investors. And you don't know why the Stock market is hurting? Investors know that they will be hurt when those taxes are raised once again. Politicians threatened law suits to loan companies to make risky loans to people they otherwise would not want to make loans to and now people's houses are forclosuring and you wonder why politicians?? Yes Lenders made some bad loans themselves, some might have taken advantage of certain people. But if those people foreclose, it hurts the lender.. so why would lenders take advantage of people? I would claim that businesses did not really do that unlike what all your business hating people like John Edwards want you to think. Many Lenders were pressured to make loans to people, that in a free market with no government, would not have gotten due to those individual's financial situations, credit history, and social influences. Now politicians want to blame the lenders for the housing crisis?? Our tax system is set up to punish investment and risk taking, to punish businesses and prosperity, and you wonder why this slow down is happening?

I have some ideas,
1.) Get a Flat tax or Fair tax that taxes individuals equally on percentage wise with deductions for families that are poor, or have kids. This does not punishment people for moving up in the income brackets like the current system does.
2.) Don't tax Corporations and small businesses at the second Highest rate in the world which pushes business out of the country into tax friendly atmospheres.
3.) Don't tax investment with Capital Gains taxes. It is stupid and people are more afraid to invest with their money when you tax their profits.
4.) And finally, let the private market make their own decisions with loans and other issues in the economy. In other words do YOUR job and NOT everyone else.

And now Government wants to step in a fix a problem that they made worse to start with. That is typical, government always wants to throw my money and other tax payers money to fix problems that they created in the first place.. It hurts to know this.....

Our Addiction to Oil.

Everyday I hear about my addiction to oil. I hear environmentalist, greens, socialist, communist, liberals, whatever they want to be called now talking about MY addiction to oil.

You are darn right I’m addicted to oil. I’m also proud of that addiction. You are darn right I'm addicted to oil baby! And I'm proud of it. I for one love my SUV. If I'm driving and I have an accident there is a much better chance of me living than my environmentalist geography teacher who drives a small high gas mileage plastic car. I live and she dies! Guess what people I am happy to be addicted to oil. I’m addicted to success and prosperity. Oil has brought that to our country as much as any other resource in our history.

Oil and Coal and other things, "Greens" want us to get rid of, have saved millions of lives! When a disaster happens in countries without oil, coal, and energy, lots of people die. Look at the Tsunami that hit Indonesia. It killed tens of thousands of people. When we have a disaster happens in this country that would usually kill thousands in other countries, we have usually single digit deaths. It is because our buildings hold up. Steel is made from coal and iron. Without it our buildings would be much weaker. They would collapse more often and quicker. Oil transportation is cheaper and better and people can get out of “dodge” if a disaster is coming. They find out about that disaster coming from a TV and news station that is powered by electricity most likely coming from Coal. The fact is oil and coal have saved thousands and possible millions of lives throughout history and has made our lives much more enjoyable.

We always hear about the dangers of global warming and how America is hurting the environment. Humans only account for less than 4% of all carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. This is what people like Al Gore say causes temperatures to rise. I tend not to give humans much credit for it if we only account for less than 1/25 of something. The next time a politician tells you that you are addicted to oil and we must get off of it. You tell him what he can do with his or her expensive alternative energy if you know what I mean.

Capitalism and Freedom

I just finished one of the most informing books I have ever read. It is a must read for anyone who cares about economics. Capitalism and Freedom is written by the most notable American Economist in history. It was written in 1962 and explains the differences between good sound capitalistic policies and well intentioned by miserable big government policies.

It amazes me to see the ignorance of so many Americans who tend to want to vote for a politician that pushes for policies that are well intentioned but have been failing for years. We live in a country that spends half a trillion dollars a year on income redistribution programs such as welfare, social security, Medicare, Medicaid, public housing and more. America has roughly a population of 300 million today. That is between 70 and 100 million families. Of those families how many do you think need welfare or government assistance? Allow me to put that number at say the bottom 33%. I don’t like income redistribution programs that are government ran to help the poor. But our country has been doing it for years now. If you do the math that is $500,000,000,000 a year spent on between 22 and 34 million families. If you divide 500 billion by 30 million you will come up with more than 16,000. That is $16000.00 per family in government help. That is a full time minimum wage job type pay. Yet do you think that those families live as if they are better off by $16,500? I don’t.

How much does government waste with these worthless government programs that are there with good intentions but I think rather to buy votes. We as a nation could give out $16,500 to each family that is in the bottom 33% income in this country instead of have government run ridiculously wasteful programs that help buy votes for politicians. Poverty is not being removed because politicians continue to implement government programs to make up for the inefficiencies of Capitalism. Maybe the problem is not our economy but the makeup of the American Family. Most poverty exist where addiction to drugs and alcohol exist. Most poverty exists in families that are hit with divorce. Most poverty exists where single moms are young and have no education. Empirical evidence shows that it is these government programs that incentivize such broken families and thus poverty.

Capitalism and Freedom explains sound policies that would alleviate most of poverty. It explains in detail what is wrong with government intervention. T he book explains and gives examples of why the Great Depression happened. It shows the reader why government although it serves a purpose, has kept this country from expanding and becoming even richer. I hope that you who plan on voting this year will take a minute to read this book and other books that show evidence condemning the programs you see liberal advocating.

Taxes and the Election

Taxes are a necessity of any government. Taxes allow the government to collect revenues. The Kennedy, Reagan, and Bush tax cuts all raised government revenues because their tax cuts incentivized investment and the growth of the overall economy out weighed the percentage cut in taxes and thus real dollars in tax revenue actually went up. You would think that Democrats would support lower taxes considering they love big government. But the truth is that Democrats are for taxes on the rich so that the poor do not have to pay any taxes. If they can make it where less than 50% of the population actually pays taxes, how can that bottom 50% ever vote for anyone else? It is a smart plan if you ask me. But let’s look at more importantly what taxes do to an overall economy which does effect poor people even if they are not the ones directly paying those taxes.

America pays, if I am not mistaken, the second largest corporation taxes in the world. I think Japan is the only country that pays higher corporation taxes. Corporations in America pay 35% of their total revenues to the government. I want you to think about this scenario. You own your own business. You produce and sell golf carts to golf course owners in the state of Tennessee. Tennessee charges you a 35% tax on all revenues. In the state of Georgia there is another producer of golf carts that can sell golf carts and pay just 10% in taxes to Georgia. Remember, corporation taxes are imbedded in the price of the golf carts. Thus those who have to pay more taxes usually have to charge higher prices. If you have to sell your carts for more to be able to afford the huge tax, do you think the owners of the golf courses are going to buy from you or the person in Georgia that can charge less for the same product? Tennessee Producers of golf carts are going to move to Georgia and produce golf carts because of the competition. Tennessee will lose those jobs and thus the tax revenues will go down as well. The Tennessee economy suffers, the Georgia economy accelerates and despite only getting 10% of each cart sold, they will get far more because every cart is now produced in their state.

Put that in the real world when other countries can produce cars and export them to America and not have to pay the thousands in taxes per vehicle they sell. Those companies can lower the prices of their cars as opposed to domestic produced car makers like GM, FORD, etc... Do you not think Citizens will buy the less expensive car and thus the domestic producers of cars will lose revenue, lose business and thus have to cut costs by laying off workers? They would not be able to compete! Why do you think Michigan’s economy is the worst in the country? Chicago's population is half of what it was a few decades ago, and their per capita income which was #1 in the country years ago, is now not even in the top 60. Michigan has a democratic government that supports high taxes and unions that charge higher prices at their jobs than the rest of the country. Today almost half of the students at Michigan and Michigan State, plan on leaving the state to get a job. Maybe it is time to reelect some politicians that know how an economy works so that jobs will come back to Michigan.

The American people are only required to take 1/2 a year of economics in high school and most degrees in college require very little economics as well. Thus the same American people who can name more characters in the Simpsons television show than they can First Amendment rights are the same Americans that do not understand the effects of higher taxes.

Politicians on the left want more taxes and want to punish corporations and their CEO's for their profits. And yet the government makes more from their business than the business itself! But no criticism of this is heard. Corporations have lowered the prices of goods and services in this country since the early 19th century. People like Rockefeller, Carnegie, J.P. Morgan, and others were criticized for their wealth. Yet their corporations lowered the prices of their goods and more Americans could use those goods now that they were affordable. Maybe Americans need to criticize stupid tax policies that are enforced by politicians on the left who have never had an economics course growing up.

Is it America's fault?

I have been student teaching at Redbank High School in Chattanooga TN. I have learned much during my experience. I have leaned that thanks to our education system and our media, American students have turned against their country. As I spark up conversation with them they mumble liberal talking points that are anti-American. Tim Robbins was on Bill Mahr the other night and did the usual; American troops have invaded a sovereign nation and have killed over 400,000 Iraqi Citizens. The fact is no where close to 400,000 citizens have been killed. It is much closer to 70,000. And to say that the U.S. soldiers or George Bush have killed them is an outright lie and disgrace! This war saw the fewest civilian casualties in any country takeover of this type that I have ever known of or studied throughout the history of modern warfare. It is the Islamic Fascist in Iraq led by Al Qaeda that is killing everyone!

Keep this in mind, Sadaam could have allowed U.N. inspectors to have unlimited access as he was suppose to do. He could have kept from firing at our planes in the “no fly zone” that we are assigned to keep an eye on for the security of the nation and Middle East. Every main Intelligence agency in the world including most European Nation’s Intelligence Agencies believed he had WMD. Bill Clinton believed it. He signed a resolution calling for his disarmament. Hillary Clinton supported it and said "I voted for that War" when Sadaam was being pulled out of the spider hole and the polls showed that there was great support for the war. We see struggles in Iraq, polls start changing, and she changes with them and does not represent herself with honesty. Democrats claim that Bush pressured our intelligence agencies to concentrate on the evidence against this tyrant and to omit the evidence that is not so solid. Every investigation into such allegations has proven that did not take place. To the contrary, the daily briefings Bush got were more serious than the intelligence those in Congress had access to.

Keep this one last thing in mind. The next time someone tells you that we are causing all the problems in the Middle East, simply put this scenario to them. If tomorrow the Islamic Radicals were to lay down their weapons, not one more person in the Middle East would die from any war. But if tomorrow America and Israel laid down our weapons... there would be another Holocaust and millions of Americans and Israelis would die! It is that simple.

Why I support Rudy Giuliani.

Conservatives are angry this election because the perfect candidate does not exist. Conservatives are angry because we believed that President Bush was that true conservative in 2000. However, eight years later with federal spending out of control, conservatives are anxious to have the perfect conservative to be their candidate come November. The problem we now face is that candidate does not exist. Liberals on the other hand hate traditional America so much they will get excited about anyone that will radically change our way of life. Each Democratic candidate represents that.

With that said, I have decided to embrace Rudy Giuliani for President. To be honest, I strongly disagree with him on some issues. Issues such as abortion and traditional marriage are very important to conservatives and so it should be. Rudy Giuliani says that personally he is Pro-life but does not think that the government has a right to tell a female what she should do with her own body. Many scientist and doctors still consider the fetus, during the first few months of pregnancy, to be part of the woman’s body. Giuliani’s opinion makes no sense in that why would he personally be against abortion if it is simply part of the woman’s body? Could anyone really believe that a woman destroying an insignificant part of her body be immoral and thus personally against it? I find his stance to be quite strange. I personally believe that abortion is murder and Roe vs. Wade should be overturned and abortion outlawed. Gay marriage is another issue. It does not take away anyone’s rights and thus should be left to states to decide since the Constitution says that any power not given to Congress and not restricted of states should be left up to the states.

There are many reasons I support Giuliani. Rudy has no experience on foreign policy in regards to military conflict, but McCain is the only one who does. Bush, Clinton, nor Reagan had any experience on such matters either. What Mayor Giuliani has is the confidence to call the war what it is. He refers to it as the War against Islamic Radicalism not the War on Terror which would be the equivalent of calling WWII the War on Tanks or the War on foot soldiers. Rudy supports tough interrogation methods on terrorist unlike McCain and Huckabee. He also supports having Guantanamo Bay as a place to lock up enemy combatants and suspected terrorist. McCain and Huckabee have called for it to be shut down.

Giuliani is a hawk on economic issues. He has Steve Forbes as a financial advisor, which is enough for me. Forbes supports a Flat tax which I would love to have. Giuliani supports low taxes on corporations and capital gains which creates an incentive to invest and expands the economy. When asked what the problems are with NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) he answers, it has not been enforced enough. While many politicians on the left and even some on the right are more protectionists on trade, Rudy sees the importance of free trade. He continues to talk about regulation that must be eliminated to allow our corporations to have more freedom which would lower their costs.

Giuliani supports school choice and is hated by the NEA (National Education Association) which I consider one of the most destructive groups in America. Our Education system poses the greatest threat to our nation’s existence and allowing parents to choose where to send their child is the best way to immediately fix this problem. As a teacher, this is a huge issue for me. School choice would mean that parents should send their child to any school they want with a voucher that would pay for it.

Giuliani understands healthcare. He talks about more control by the individual and eliminating government and even corporations and businesses from controlling your healthcare. He encourages more choice and thus competition and eliminating frivolous law suits which would lower prices significantly.

Giuliani is tough on crime. He lowered crime dramatically in New York and it made it one of the safest large cities in the world. He cracked down on drugs and violence. George Will, one of the most conservative columnists of the 20th century, called his government one of the most conservative of the last 50 years. That is good enough for me.

Finally Giuliani often talks about the greatness of America. He believes that America is a great country and he is not afraid to mention it. His pride and understanding of our importance on the world stage gives me confidence that he will look out for our country in a world that is continuously calling for a more collectivist society that wants to give the U.N. more power. Giuliani almost appears to be the kind of guy that would favor getting the U.N. out of our country. I would love that since that world organization hates America anyways. With all this, despite our differences on social ideas, I feel that Rudy Giuliani is best for our country during these tough times. Ask yourself, if Giuliani was pro-life, and Pro-traditional marriage, would he have your support? There are so many Christians that would. If so, remind yourself that President Bush has had little effect on those social issues and thus Giuliani’s personal social beliefs have little to do with being the Commander in Chief. I believe if we would get behind Giuliani he has the best chance of winning some states Republicans normally cannot win. Lets give him a chance!

Lies about our military coming from liberals!!!

I have never been angrier in my life! As you know if you read many of my blogs, I hate the mainstream media and I hate people like John Edwards who criminalize the American way of life while living off its benefits.

The New York Times has recently released a column that says combat veterans in Iraq and Afghanistan are committing murders in the U.S.A. at "alarming rates". Also, John Edwards has been campaigning that 200,000 American Veterans are homeless and sleeping under bridges and on benches in parks, and insinuates that it is the fault of the economy and our capitalistic system that led to this. Lets look at some facts:

90% of people, both regular civilians and military veterans, who are homeless, are homeless because of their addiction to alcohol or drugs and also mental illnesses that might exist. Most is substance abuse. There is little if any differences in the rates among veterans and ordinary civilians. Furthermore, he implies, as I have already mentioned, that it is the economic system of America (Capitalism) that has caused this. That is a lie. It is substance abuse and mental illnesses that cause it. That is an INDIVIDUAL problem not an economic problem. The Democrats and notably Edwards do not want to admit that it is INDIVIDUAL choices that are causing these problems not our way of life in America! This bothers me because he is using this for political gain and is lying to the American people who are ignorant enough to fall for his lies! For the record, if the American Government would stop throwing money at every issue in our country instead of making individuals take responsibility, then the government could spend more resources on taking care of our military personal who might battle with mental issues when he or she returns from war.

The NY Times ran a story claiming that veterans are committing murder at alarming rates. Let us look at the facts. Most murders are committed by people 18-34 according to the Dept of Justice. Veterans become murderers at a rate of 7 per 100,000. Ordinary Civilians- 40 murderers per 100,000! Not only is the NY Times dishonest. But the opposite is in fact true. Veterans murder at a lower rate than ordinary civilians. This sheds light on the fact that mental illnesses caused from trauma such as a war do not affect veterans anymore than ordinary humans. This is contrary to what Edwards would want you to believe.

The NY Times is writing this because of a lack of front page coverage of bombs going off in Iraq. This is due in large part to the fact that bombs are not going off in Iraq like they use to before the change in strategy. Thus they must show that the Iraq war is now destroying our military soldier's lives when they return home! I'm pissed! Do not use my heroes for anti-Bush propaganda especially when the news is full of lies!

JESS

Welcome!

Hi, my name is Jess Raby, the proud 25 year old son of Hoyt and Donna Raby. I grew up in a large Christian family of seven. We attended church on Sunday mornings, evenings, and Wednesday nights. No questions were asked, we were there. Growing up, my family and I gave nearly all of our extra-curricular attention to the world of sports. All of us kids played football, basketball, baseball, and even golf at some point in our lives competitively. The closest I ever came to watching the news was on Friday nights waiting for Friday Night Hits, the local news sports segment that concentrated on High School Football.

I never paid any attention to politics. The only person I knew personally that did was my grandfather, Archie Raby. He raised his family - my dad and his sisters, as family that valued conservative social beliefs, but more liberal economics ideas. My late Grandfather supported the likes of Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter, and people like Franklin Roosevelt. He was always committed to strict Christian social views but his vote would be based more on the President’s role in helping middle class families. I grew up saying I was a “Democrat” before I knew what that meant. My Uncle, Ken Yager, was the Roane County Mayor as a Republican; I didn’t know what that meant either. All of my family of course supported him, but in any other political arena, it was the Democratic candidate that my family tended to support.

My life was suddenly changed while attending college at Walter State Community College in Morristown, Tennessee by the attacks of 9/11. I began, for the first time in my life, watching closely the news to see how our President George Walker Bush would respond to the attacks. , I supported, as many Americans did at the time, the aggressive actions taken against the Taliban and Al Qaeda in Afghanistan. However, I didn’t pay much attention to politics beyond 9/11 until I moved to Chattanooga, TN to finish my college years at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. While attending school, I worked at Sears, and met a man who followed politics very closely named Roger Kincer. Each time we worked together, I quizzed him on his opinions.
It was then that my studies of politics and all related subjects really flourished. Kincer recommended me to a website- Boortz.com. Libertarian Neal Boortz who hosts his own radio show out of Atlanta would post a link called “Nealz Nuze” that I would read almost everyday. There he would give his view of the news of the day. This was what he considered a commentary of the news from a different perspective that we could not get from those in the mainstream media. Below his opinions he would link to columns written by conservative and libertarian columnists. It was there that I fell in love with the work of Walter Williams, Thomas Sowell, and Ralph Peters. Williams and Sowell concentrated on economics and social political policies, while Peters concentrated on foreign issues. From there I began buying their books on Amazon.com and continued to expand my knowledge of politics. By listening to Boortz on the radio, sometimes through noon I heard a man named Rush Limbaugh express his views and commentary on politics and current events.

Today I watch Fox News to keep up with the more fair and balanced reporting of the day’s events. Additionally, I watch commentary shows which include Neil Covuto’s show that concentrates on economics, Bill O’Reilly and his commentary on politics, and social issues, and finally Hannity and Combs for their concentration on Politics and the day’s news. In addition to paying closer attention to the news, I decided to educate myself on foreign policy issues by reading the works of Michael Evans, a Middle East expert – Robert Spencer, an expert on the religion of Islam, and Tommy Franks – 4 Star General of our armed forces during the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. I read books that were recommended by my favorite University professor, Wilfred McClay, which concentrated on foreign policy philosophies. Most importantly I have continued my studies away from school by reading the works of authors such as William Bennett and David McCullough. I study World and American History for hours each week These influencers on my life: radio commentators such as Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Neal Boortz and others, as well as conservative authors who’s work is posted on websites such as Townhall.com, have been most convicting in my political life. Learning from them and other authors and experts like Charles Murray, whose studies focus on social policies and their effects on minorities, women, and society has shaped my political worldview. And, finally the influence of individuals like Roger Kincer and the many professors of mine whom I respect, has molded me into a well founded, rounded and educated man who desires to spread conservative ideas that help bring about prosperity to all who embrace the basic principles of personal freedom and personal responsibility.
